Smart City vigilance
Case Study by Parisa Rost
A smart city is a city that, based on the latest evolving theories of urban management based on information and communication technology, has the following six main criteria:
- Smart Governance
- Smart Citizen
- Smart Environment
- Smart Home
- Smart Economy
- Smart Mobility
- Smart Energy
A smart city is an urban area that uses a variety of electronic sensors to collect and analyze information, which is efficient for managing urban assets and resources. The project includes a collection of citizens, devices and urban resources that are processed, analyzed and analyzed to information and management of traffic and transportation, systems, power plants, water, networks, management, law enforcement systems. Information and help schools, libraries, hospitals and other social services.
The idea of the Smart City is to integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and various grid-connected devices (IoT) to optimize the utilization of urban services and uses and connect it to citizens. Smart city technology allows city officials to interact directly with the community and urban infrastructure, monitoring what is happening and what is evolving.
- Smart energy
Intelligent energy systems monitor energy consumption and manage and maintain it more efficiently. - Smart movement
The goal of smart relocation is to provide options for sustainable transportation. Walking, cycling and other transportation methods are some of the solutions that can solve the traffic and transportation problem to some extent. Finding new and better solutions can reduce costs and have a positive impact on the environment. - Intelligent infrastructure
Intelligent infrastructure provides the necessary foundation for all intelligent solutions. Using new technologies to convert raw data into information, urban and regional planning can be done to meet future needs. Existing systems can also be improved by analyzing data, traffic patterns, and tracking systems. - Smart public services
By connecting citizens and city officials, they can become safer, cleaner places, and raise the overall standards of the city. If citizens have the opportunity to report problems with garbage collection or other infrastructure problems, the authorities can act faster and solve the problems. - Smart health and wellness
In order to adapt to changes in the urban population, smarter health services must be provided. Smarter methods of providing treatment services can reduce costs, establish effective communication between healthcare professionals, and provide patients with essential information. When nurses and physicians have access to patient information, they can work together in new ways to best care for patients.
Scenario 2025
Guadalajara, the second-largest city in Mexico, and recognized by UNESCO in 2017 as a Digital Creative City, is conceived as a meeting place and center for innovation and technologies, and is attracting an increasing number of tech-savvy developers and creators. It aims to eventually become a so-called Smart City, promoting the use of automated systems that will generate and analyze data to provide innovative ways for residents to experience the city.
Despite the numerous tourist attractions in and around the city, however, Guadalajara has been experiencing increased levels of societal insecurity, causing potential tourists to hesitate before visiting. As evidenced by the report of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), a number of chronic issues have been identified; among them, homicides, missing persons, and robbery.
In this case study we have to choose a types of wearable technology device, according to Jalisco’s government demands.
The device that we agreed to “develop” is a wearable bracelet that aims to help women in Guadalajara (tourists and locals) in situations where they feel unsafe or even in danger on the street/in a car etc.
The questions that we have to Answer :
The following six questions regarding the project.
- To which of the 21 tipping points would you link your proposal, and why?
I would link my proposal to Our Digital Presence for Decision, Wearable internet, Smart Cities, Internet of and for Things and Big Data, because all of them are incresing quality of peoples life.
- Increased transparency.
- Better decision-making.
- Improved quality of life.
- Increased efficiency in using resources.
- They reduced complexity and more efficiency for citizens.
2. Which tools would you select from IDEO’s design kit for the INSPIRATION stage, and why?
For the inspiration stage — Align of your impact goals, Frame your design, Recruiting Tools, Interview, and Draw it,are tools that I select from IDEO’s design Kit because all of them are usefull for collect data and information about the project that is an important part of the inspiration step.
3. Which tools would you select from IDEO’s design kit for the IDEATION stage, and why?
For the ideation — Journey map, Gut check, Build and Run Prototypes, Get Feedback, and Co-creative Sessions are tools that I select from IDEO’s design Kit because they are very user friendy and simple to work,we can show people our prototype and get their feedbacks.
4. Which tools would you select from IDEO’s design kit for the IMPLEMENTATION stage, and why?
For the implementation — Define Your Indicators, Live Prototyping, Build Partnerships, Roadmap for Success, and Explore Scalability are tools that I select from IDEO’s design Kit because all of the are usefull for testing project and get feedbacks,For example you’ve been getting feedback from the people you’re designing for all along, a Live Prototype gives you a chance to stress test your complete solution in real world conditions. It can run from a few weeks to a few months, and it might be the first time that you observe how all parts of your solution work together as one system.
As you move through the Implementation Phase you may realize that you’ll need to rely on a variety of partners. You can identify the funding partners you’ll need by using the Funding Strategy and Sustainable Revenue methods. And you can use the Business Model Canvas and Capabilities Quicksheet to see the big picture of getting your idea off the ground. The key idea here is identifying the kinds of partners you’ll need, and starting to build relationships with them, Build Partnerships is perfect tool to identifying the kinds of partners you’ll need, and starting to build relationships with them .
5. Describe your wearable device, including its functions and benefits according to Jalisco’s government demands.
The device that we agreed to “develop” is a wearable bracelet that aims to help women in Guadalajara (tourists and locals) in situations where they feel unsafe or even in danger on the street/in a car etc.
The design will resemble the traditional beaded bracelets in order to appear normal and not attract any attention to the potential criminal. Tjey will be produced by locally in order to support the community on a financial level as well. The colors used are also the three colors of the Mexican flag: red, green and white. Three of the beads (one in each color) are equipped with chips that recognize the fingerprints of the owner and have GPS installed in their software.
When pressed for 5 seconds they will perform the following actions:
- The red one will contact the closest police station with a standardized message and sharing the information and location of the victim -> there will be a division in the police station that exclusively works with these cases.
- The green one will alert a Call Center that will then call the owner of the bracelet in situations where she feels uncomfortable/unsafe and talk to her “pretending” that she is a family member/friend waiting for her at the end of her ride/walk.
- The white one will be used in case one of the other ones has been accidentally pressed to let the authorities know that the bracelet owner is safe.
Benefits of the product:
- Fostering trust in the local authorities.
- Making women feel safe when they are out by themselves.
- Spreadin awareness of the issue and creating a support system for women in Guadalajara.
- Decrease Violence in Guadalajara.
- ImproveTourism Industry in Guadalajara.
6. What did you learn through this case study (personal and theoretical)?
Through this case study, I learned a great deal about the important role of the Internet of Things in the lives of people around the world.
And I decided to do a lot more research on this because we can not ignore the transformation of cities into smart cities in the near future.
